Charter Renewal

Why is Charter Renewal Important?

Ontime charter renewal is important becuase:

  • Unit is no longer covered by the BSA insurance coverage.  This means that your leaders could be liable in the event of an accident.
  • Youth advancements cannot be recorded through the national office of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Magazine subscriptions of Boy's Life and Scouting will lapse (and it takes a full two months for these periodicals to resume their circulation to your home).
  • Your unit will not be eligible for the Quality Unit Award - an important distinction and an indication that you are bringing the best possible program to your unit's youth.

How is Charter Renewal Accomplished?
The Charter Renewal process can be accomplished by using the old paper method and manually completed the paperwork or leaders can use the new Online Charter Renewal Program

Benefits of Internet Rechartering

  • Eliminates the need to cross out inactive Scout and Adult information. You can just delete it online
  • Eliminates the need to pencil in changes or additions to your unit. You can just type it online
  • Automatically verifies that you have the minimum number of leaders in the correct positions.
  • Automatically calculates your unit renewal fees.
  • Saves time by eliminating the need to hand write additions, changes and deletions.
  • Helps to reduce errors.

Units can choose either the traditional paper-based rechartering method, or the new Internet Rechartering method. All that's needed for Internet Rechartering is a PC with access to the Internet, and the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser installed. (Sorry, other web browsers aren't supported yet.)

Who can I talk to if I need assistance?
